01 / ABOUT THE PLACE

About this place

Arriving at the table amid fragrant steam straight from the oven, the signature hamburger steak set is the centrepiece of Lion Kitchen. Each hand-kneaded patty is plump and juicy, layered with melted cheese and a choice of house sauces, then baked until bubbling alongside colourful vegetables. Diners can choose from classic mushroom demi-glace, bright tomato sauce, velvety mushroom cream, or a lively, mildly spicy salsa. Served with fifteen-grain rice and a fresh green salad, the meal offers a wholesome way to enjoy a generous serving of vegetables.

For an even heartier meal, the menu features locomoco bowls piled high with fresh salad greens over fifteen-grain rice, as well as piping-hot dorias baked golden in the oven. The mushroom cream doria, for example, layers a mushroom demi-glace rice base with creamy white sauce and melted cheese, delivering comforting richness without feeling heavy. The cafe's Western-style lineup also includes omurice topped with a soft, runny omelette and a slow-simmered bean and minced meat curry, catering to a wide range of cravings.

Dessert is an essential part of the visit, led by the cafe’s longtime signature moist banana cake. With banana making up nearly half of the batter, it stays moist with a dense, springy texture, delivering unpretentious natural fruit sweetness in every bite. Other carefully sourced sweets include the Lion Pudding, simply steam-baked with Hokkaido beet sugar and rich Ryū no Tamago eggs from Oita Prefecture, and an Uji matcha cake made using ceremonial-grade green tea.

The interior is accented with playful animal illustrations by picture-book artist Tomonori Taniguchi, offering both table and counter seating that feels welcoming and relaxed for solo diners. Guests order conveniently via a QR code at their table, making the space just as practical for a casual, nourishing lunch as it is for an unhurried cafe stop while exploring the area.
